Preventive medicine is an essential component of obstetrics. There are several difficulties experienced by women in utilizing health care facilities and this is one of the reason for the high maternal and perinatal mortality in developing countries. To overcome this the government has launched various schemes to reduce maternal and perinatal mortality.
- Dr. Muthulakshmi Reddy maternity benefit scheme (MRMBS):
- This maternity benefit scheme was launched in Tamil Nadu in 1987 with the aim to reduce maternal and perinatal mortality.
- Only for 2 deliveries the maternity assistance is provided.
- The government of India has launched 'Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana' scheme for all eligible mothers with 60:40 sharing by central and state government. The government of India decided to launch PMMVYS scheme in combination with MRMBS scheme for eligible mothers for their first child.
